Between 2015 and August 12, 2019, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility granted visas to 2,585 citizens of Africa and 37,341 citizens of Asia.
Nigeria is the African country with the highest number of documents delivered by Ecuador (579 in total). Meanwhile, China holds 28,064 visas.
In addition, according to the Minister of Government, María Paula Romo, “so far this year there are 2,044 citizens of Cameroon who have arrived in Ecuador and we have 20 departures registered”. These data reinforce the thesis of the National Government that the excessive flexibility in the entry of foreigners established during the past decade made the country an attractive for human trafficking.
Therefore, the Executive decided to request the document from citizens of Angola, Cameroon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, India, Iraq, Libya, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Syria and Sri Lanka. Likewise, on July 25, 2019, a decree was issued establishing the visa application for Venezuelans entering the country since August 26 2019.
