7,000 Ecuadorians are insured in Spain

7,000 Ecuadorians are Affiliated to the Social Security Agreement with Spain.
7,000 Ecuadorians have joined the Social Security Agreement signed between Spain and Ecuador, and 2,070 have already retired there, plus 4 Spanish, according to the bilateral agreement that took effect in January 2011, said today the head of the Ecuadorian Social Security, Ramiro Gonzalez.
Gonzalez said the agreement is working “very well” and now also benefits the Spanish professionals who are currently working in Ecuador.
“Before there was no health. Nobody wanted to retire because pensions were too low, but now the higher pension is $ 1,606, which is a good one anywhere, and beyond,” he said.
However, he assured that “there is still much to do,” and, among his top priorities, is “the changing of the Social Security Act for, after the elections, discuss it with the society.” (MZ)
