Russia and Tokyo struck by quake
A powerful earthquake struck off the eastern coast of Russia and its tremor was felt as far away as Tokyo. The initial report of the US Geological Survey stated that the quake had a 7,7 magnitude with no tsunami generated.
Other agencies put the quake at 7,3-magnitude. The epicentre of Tuesday’s quake occurred in the Sea of Okhotsk, 100 miles east of Poronaysk at 388 miles deep.
Meanwhile Japan’s Meteorological Agency said the tremor was felt throughout the country’s northern island of Hokkaido. The earthquake also caused a jolt in the Japanese capital Tokyo. AV
