The National Government authorized 100 Wi-Fi hotspots for free access and an online processing platform, under the “Ecuador Digital, Connected and Efficient” program.

The President of the Republic, Lenin Moreno, participated in the event that took place this Tuesday, May 28, from La Carolina Park, in Quito, one of the free internet access points. The governor said that the provision of Wi-Fi points will be made in areas of high concentration such as universities, parks, markets, coliseums, stadiums, hospitals, among others.

Today 100 are enabled and in August 50 more will be enabled. The goal is 1,000 until 2021. “It is our duty and obligation to ensure access of all Ecuadorians to digital technologies. Without exclusions of any kind, “said Moreno, the Minister of Telecommunications (e), Andrés Michelena, indicated that, to date, Ecuador has only allocated 27% of the total bandwidth and that thanks to the actions of the Government it will be possible to have almost 82% occupied by the year 2021.

President Moreno stressed that in 2021 80% of the paperwork will be done through the portal www.gob.ec. Currently, this platform has 4,100 procedures that are offered in 116 public institutions.

So far, 20% is online and by the end of this year it will reach 30%. Moreno explained that in a first phase, until the end of 2019, the portal will redirect to the entity that corresponds the process, but in 2020 all the procedures can be done on the same platform.

The most frequent are those related to the sectors of education, migration, security and cedulación, highlighted the authorities at the event. “The Government’s commitment is to bring services to citizens, through the Internet, optimizing time and money,” said Michelena.
