Google and Twitter Join Forces For Egypt

Posted On 01 Feb 2011

The Egyptian opposition has the opportunity to communicate with the world through Twitter, thanks to Google. Both Internet companies have decided to join forces to support the protests against President Hosni Mubarak, by launching the Speak2Tweet service.

This is an application developed by SayNow, a company recently acquired by Google, which allows the use of Twitter through a phone call. Thanks to Speak2Tweet, people who are present in the Egyptian demonstrations have the option to record voice messages and upload them to the web without an Internet connection, all they have to do is make a call (+16504194196, +390662207294 or+97316199855), record a message and the application will turn it into a tweet and post it in real time with the hashtag #egypt. In addition, voice messages can be heard in twitter.com/speak2tweet, the official Twitter profile of Speak2Tweet.

This tool will undoubtedly be very useful to report news on natural disasters, wars or social manifestations.
