Not only he is a parent, Rene Baquerizo is also an artisan who adorns the rooms of homes in the slums of Guayaquil and works daily in his carpentry workshop “4 Hermanos” (“4 brothers”).

With a smile on his face, Rene sands, cuts, paints and shines up wood used in living and dining rooms’ furniture. He works with his family and for his family, he is the one who supports his home. A few years ago René felt the need to expand his workshop, he needed to buy materials and tools so he followed the advice of one of his neighborhood friends and asked for a loan of $ 650 to the Crusade for a New Humanity Foundation (FCNH – for its acronym in Spanish).

“I didn’t pay any taxes because the foundation is a non-profit organization, that helped me improve my business and later I covered the loan with monthly payments, Mr. Alvaro Noboa has helped me a lot and I’m really grateful for that,” says Rene, who has been able to employ other people thanks to his efforts and persistence.
