Pies Descalzos Foundation: The Human Side of Shakira

With just 18 and a promising career ahead, Shakira decided to dedicate himself to philanthropy.

In 1997 after the success of Shakira album “Pies Descalzos” (Barefoot), comes the foundation of the artist under the same name in Barranquilla, Colombia.

From its 18-year-old Shakira takes the important social commitment to children and young people of her country collaborating with the promotion of education, nutrition and health of this vulnerable society.

“Pies Descalzos” Foundation, has  10 years of commitment to school education for children and young Colombians, prioritizes education as the key and the engine to improve their quality of life.

Today, the Foundation has 5 schools in different regions of Colombia, where more than 4,000 children receive education, nutrition and psychological support.

Important Spanish and German donations are part of “Pies Descalzos” Foundation, since a new cooperative partnerships was establish with these countries. Currently the foundation provides college scholarships to top students.
