Italy Celebrates Berlusconi’s Resignation
Posted On 13 Nov 2011
This Saturday, Silvio Berlusconi resigned as prime minister of Italy, after 20 years marred by sex and judicial scandals.
Hundreds of people gathered outside the Quirinale Palace to fire him with boos and insults while uncorking bottles of champagne celebrating with banners saying “Bye-bye Silvio!” or simply “lost!” and “Finally”.
Berlusconi submitted his resignation to President Giorgio Napolitano, after Parliament passed the reforms demanded by the European Union and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to save the country from economic collapse.
