External Forces are Trying to Overrule the UN Plan

The UN-Arab League envoy, Kofi Annan’s peace plan calls for a ceasefire controlled by the United Nations. This would allow them to provide humanitarian aid to the victims of the conflict. Another step of the plan is enabling talks between the opposition and the regime.

The UN Security Council unanimously approved the six-point plan on March 21. Lavrov informed that “some countries, some external forces are not interested in the success of the current peaceful efforts of the Security Council.”

“The truce in Syria is still very fragile and all the influential parties on either side of the conflict should be guided by the interests of the Syrian people rather than their own ambitions,” said the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov.

According to Lavrov this forces are trying to overrule the Security Council with several unofficial formats and tools to convince the Syrian opposition to not cooperate with the government. (AV)
