Newsweek Will Go Digital in 2013

Posted On 18 Oct 2012

Newsweek Magazine Headquarters in New York City

As of December 31, 2012, the magazine “Newsweek” will stop its print edition in the United States to become a digital only. Spokesmen confirmed that after 80 years of printing, “Newsweek” will be renamed to “Newsweek Global“, which would be read both on the web as on the mobile devices.
According to the chief executives, the decision should be seen as a “transition” and not a “farewell“. “Our commitment to Newsweek and our type of journalism is continuing,” said Tina Brown, editor in chief of the magazine.
Despite that the new magazine will keep subscription payment system, the decision to transition is justified by the difficulty of keeping the costs of printing and distribution. Unfortunately, the “digital edition” involves a downsizing of operations in the U.S. magazine. (JP)
