Lapentti and Moya offered a tennis show

Posted On 28 Oct 2012

Tennis players Nicolas Lapentti and Carlos Moya performed in a sports show before 1500 fans called “Masters Game” at the Buena Vista Club of Quito.

Moyá, former world number one and being the first time playing at 2,850 meters above sea level, was defeated by the Ecuadorian former tennis player  by 3-6, 6-3, 10-8.

The Spanish showed his dominance in this discipline, and also made jokes while making some kicking with his right leg. During  the second set, Moya pretended to be tired and gave the racket to a young guy named Edison Aguayo and asked him for help. The boy, who could not believe it, played a game. Moya asked the fans to applaud the young man.

Both athletes made the sunny afternoon very pleasant. At times Moya joked with the linesman, in two occasions he  threatened to hit him with the ball. “The third time I’ll do it,” he said smiling.

“I am very grateful and happy for the affection of the people,” said Carlos Moya, who at age 21 won the biggest tournament of his career: the Roland Garros in 1998, after defeating his compatriot Alex Corretja, at the final.

Meanwhile, Lapentti, former world number six, said he had a great feeling about the game. “Quito citizens were always waiting on my results, in the good and the bad times. The truth is, Quito was always very special city throughout my career”.
