Quito’s Subway, Ecuador’s second megaproject

The National Secretary of Planning and Development, Fander Falconi, said that “after the Coca Codo Sinclair hydroelectric project, the new transport system will be one of the most important works of the country and will have an urgent and necessary matter because it will decongest traffic in the capital , will increase employment and will improve the life quality of citizens.”

According to financial studies conducted by the Municipality and the Government, Quito’s subway will generate 26% of income. In addition, 3,000 direct jobs and 25,000 indirect ones.

Construction of the first phase of the project, ie, stops La Magdalena, located on Cinco de Junio Avenue and Rodrigo de Chavez, in the south; and El Labrador, located on the southern end of the current airport at northern Quito, will be made once the process is completed for the deliverance of the work, wich, according to Mayor Augusto Barrera, will be next month.

The total cost of the project is $ 1.5 million and will be financed as follows: 750 million from the Government and the other 750 million by the Municipality. (MZ)
