Yesterday afternoon, Andres Mendoza, chairman of the Municipal Water and Sewage Company of Guayaquil (Emapag), said after meeting with the auditor of Interagua, Manuel Garcia, that the concessionaire would a have an investment backwardness of $ 20 million between August 2011 and December 2012.

Mendoza added that so far, there has been no problem for the auditor to work within Interagua, despite the missing information required by the concessionaire. He also noted that the cooperatives which need potable water services are San Francisco, Estrella Belén y 25 de Julio.

Two weeks ago an audit began on the company Interagua. At the end of the period will be announced its results (60 days granted by the municipality). For his part, Mayor Jaime Nebot said the time is running for Interagua to rectify its announcement, otherwise the process of finalizing the contract will continue.

Months ago Interagua requested Emapag to increase the tariff per cubic meter, from 0.55 to $0.82, which was rejected, taking them to international arbitration. This caused the concessionaire to announce the Municipality that they would stop investing in works. The Municipality responded that if the concessionaire stopped investing its contract would be terminated.
