Pedro Delgado drives cars with diplomatic plates in Miami
On the afternoon of January 14, 2013, the former President of the Central Bank of Ecuador, Pedro Delgado, was seen in Wallmart 177 Stnw and 2 ave, Miami (USA), driving a Mercedes Benz ML series 230, with diplomatic plates CDG0303.
Although his wife, Maria Veronica Endara, resigned as vice consul of Ecuador in Miami, the images appear to reveal that she and her husband still enjoy diplomatic benefits in U.S. territory.
In previous days Delgado was also seen driving an Audi, which he bought in May of last year. This car costs around $ 43,000 in the U.S. and in Ecuador could reach the $ 100,000, due to taxes. According to registration documents, the car is registered in his name and paid a tax of $ 2.820.
Pedro Delgado left the country after confessing he forged his third degree title to get a master’s degree at the INCAE (Costa Rica). So far, the Ecuadorian authorities have been unable to bring back the official so he can testify in the trial against him for misrepresentation, carried out by the independent Assembly member Enrique Herreria.
Moreover, the Foreign Ministry has not clarified his immigration status and with what type of visa he remains in the United States. According to his cousin, President Rafael Correa, Delgado travelled to the U.S. to attend the marriage of his son Pedro. Meanwhile, the prosecution, in a new petition, has cited him for the upcoming Thursday January 17.
