Cubans deported from Ecuador

On Monday, January 21, Ecuador deported 25 Cuban immigrants who arrived that same day to Quito aboard a commercial flight, because they did not had a letter of invitation for entering the country, the report was made by Hiroshima Villalba, and Interior Ministry official.

On Tuesday, January 15, Ecuador announced that Cubans would require a letter of invitation if they wish to enter their territory that started from January 21, this is after La Habana (Cuba) authorized them to travel abroad without government permission.

The Interior Ministry said the letter must be legalized by the same portfolio, a fact that was made before the Cuban embassy in Quito and “meet the immigration requirements to contribute the validity of an orderly migration flows between the two countries and to prevent human trafficking.”

The Ecuadorian office added that the document will be issued by an Ecuadorian or foreign immigrant with a visa by an affidavit, which promises to cover the costs of accommodation, food and medical care of his guest and that Cubans can “remain in the country for up to 90 days.”

The decision to return the group of Cubans was because of some slight incidents within the Quito airport, travellers as well as family and friends who were to receive them, said that in the Ecuadorian embassy in La Habana were not told anything regarding the mandatory letter of invitation.
