Chavez condition has not allowed his return to Caracas to swear

According to the Spanish newspaper ABC, the president of Venezuela, Hugo Chavez, had prepared a plane between Januray 17 and 18 to bring him back to Caracas, but the trip was aborted due to his delicate health.

The travel plan was to move to Chavez on a stretcher from the Cimeq of La Habana (Cuba) to the military hospital in the Venezuelan capital, where several floors had been reserved for the needs of the president, said ABC yesterday.

That was one of the attempts to try to mobilize Chavez, who remains hospitalized since last December 10 in La Habana. According to the Spanish newspaper sources on the island, the idea is to make that trip as soon as possible so that Chavez can be sworn into his office, something he could not do on January 10, as it was mandated by the Constitution.

Apart from swearing, Chavez would appoint as vice president Nicolas Maduro as the head of the state and not the National Assembly president, Diosdado Cabello, who by law should assume control of the nation and make a quick election in case of resignation or incapacity of president. Chavez would hold a brief ceremony to swear into his office when his weak physical condition allows him to travel. ABC
