Peru and Chile resume relations despite the territorial conflict

After seven years, the governments of Chile and Peru in 2013, resumed, as a sign of confidence, new official bilateral meetings, and civil society as businessmen, media and church also generated meeting opportunities together.

In this context, should be noted that the two countries have given a new emphasis to their relationship even though they still maintain the dispute over the maritime boundaries. About the verdict in this case, the judges will announce its decision this January 27 in The Hague, almost a year after the oral stage of the process.

On the economic side, as members of the Pacific Alliance, the presidents and chancellors form Peru and Chile, aim the integration to consolidate the circulation of products and services;  reason why they have met on seven summits.

The objective is to increase the trade balance between the two countries and protect the good neighbourly relations between Tacna (Peru) and Arica (Chile) , where five millions of transfers per year are carried out.

It is estimated that the next meeting will be in Cartagena (Colombia) in early February when  judgment of The Hague is known.
