Underemployment is still growing faster than full employment. The sporadic jobs with low incomes and without affiliation to a social insurance program increased in one year in the urban sector.

Data from the National Institute of Statistics and Census (INEC), indicate that the underemployed through December 2013 reached 2’033.638 people, representing a 13.9% increase over December of the previous year.

In the case of full employment, it grew only a 3.32% in one year and until December were registered 2’433 .934 people. This group consists of people who work at least one day legally and who has incomes above the Unified Salary.

INEC’s job information also shows that the growth of underemployment was also higher than the Economically Active Population (EAP). The highest increases in the underemployment rate were in Guayaquil with 41.11% and Ambato with 48.54% .

The national survey carried out by the  INEC, included urban and rural sectors of 579 towns and revealed that the underemployment rate continues to lead the labor statistics with 52.49% of people without a steady job.
