32 Assembly members do not have a university degree
32 of the 137 assembly members of Ecuador do not have any university degree registered in the Secretariat for Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation (Senescyt). This represents 23.3%.
The remaining 105 legislators have between one and three undergraduate degrees and of these, 48 have a fourth level certification.
Of the non-graduates group, 23 are from the ruling movement Alianza País (71.8%), the rest are from the opposition. It is also noted that five are national, five of Guayas and four from abroad. The remaining correspond to 14 provinces.
Among the most common undergraduate careers of the legislators are law (38), education (32), several engineering degrees (19). A minority are doctors, economists, among other careers.
Most fourth-level titles registered in the Senescyt are related to jurisprudence and advanced degrees in various disciplines. There are just 13 legislators with a master’s degree.
