Exporters analyzed opportunities with Russia

The Corporation of Promotion of Exports and Investments (Corpei) developed the discussion “Russia, opportunities in a growing market”, in which entrepreneurs and experts in foreign trade analyzed the business opportunities with the country.

The Russian market is of great importance for Ecuador, its commercial relationship represents the fourth place of total non-oil exports. The main products exported are bananas, and derivatives, flowers, shrimp, fishing, coffee and broccoli.

Andrey Karpova, a former Pro-Ecuadorian official in Russia and an international negotiation consultant, said that the Russian market represents approximately $ 1 billion in exports. He added that 98% of the banana market in Russia is Ecuadorian. In the case of flowers, this represents 40%. “There is a lot of potential in Ecuadorian products; Cacao entered this country two years ago.”

In sanitary or phytosanitary issues, Karpova confirmed that in Russia there are few products that have restrictions. “The pitahaya, the banana, the coffee and the cocoa go in without problems. The Russians are very open to consume Ecuadorian products.”

In this seminar, Russia was chosen because of the current situation and its importance for the market. Valeria Rodríguez, director of Commercial Promotion of Corpei, said the workshop is part of a training program that export companies will have to identify business opportunities.

The next workshops will focus on packing and packaging issues that are required for export to the European Union (EU). In communication issues, the marketing companies will learn how to communicate efficiently to achieve a business partner through their websites.
