Six coffee shops sweeten their finances with $ 81 million

Posted On 10 Sep 2018

Ecuadornews:

Its taste not only charms the palate of the customers, but also to the pocket. Six coffee shops in the country together invoice more than 81 million dollars in a year. This is a challenge in a destination where the culture of drinking coffee is still growing.

The business that holds the first place in the ranking is close to opening its 100 store in the country. Sweet & Coffee invoiced more than 36.6 million dollars in 2017. This business was born of love. Back in 1997 Richard Peet enjoyed the desserts that his girlfriend, Soledad Hanna, offered him. This served as inspiration to open his business to get married, and the first store was opened in the Mall del Sol.

Twenty years later they have 84 locations: 60 are in Guayaquil and 24 in Quito; In the remainder of the year, 8 more will be opened, so that in 2019 they will have their local number 100, since the goal is to open between 8 and 10 branches per year, said to Diario EXPRESO, Daniel Negrete, coordinator of marketing of Sweet & Coffee.

He stressed that the key to its success is to go beyond quality and that the product must be at 100% customer’s pleasure, who has the right to request a change until satisfied. The business has a coffee university, where employees are trained.

In the ranking, according to the figures published by the Superintendence of Companies, in second place is Bakery California, with sales of more than 18 million dollars. His marketing assistant, Carlos Velasco indicated that they have 60 stores and will soon open two more: one in Santa Elena and another in La Libertad.

The business has 75 years in the market and is managed by the second generation. His strategy to succeed is to take care of quality, service and always pamper the client’s palate.

In third place is an international brand, Juan Valdez, which in Ecuador last year had sales of more than 10 million dollars. Here the Colombian way of making coffee competes with the way the Ecuadorian does it.

The fourth place is ´Pasteles  y  Compañia  with sales of more than 8 million dollars. This business was born in 1984, in the Policentro shopping center.

Although coffee is the star product of the articles that accompany it, they also promote sales; an example is bolones. Here the specialists are in El Café de Tere, their sales are more than 7.5 million dollars. Here is another example of success when the taste and service are taken care of. Its owner, Teresa Castro, started selling bolones, café and fried egg from the window of her house and today it is a business with profits of 294.909 dollars. This is the business that is in fifth place.

Café Bombon’s bills 903,662 dollars. This business was born in 1973, its founder is Eva Romoleroux, who created a small shop in the front of her house. In the Superintendency there are no financial statements of other important coffee shops.

The coffee culture grows at a good pace, but more than that they are an inspiration for those who today think about undertaking. (I)
