Quito, for the sixth time, won prize as the leading destination in South America

Ecuadornews:

The Ecuadorian capital once again ratified its leadership as South America’s leading destination in the 2018 World Travel Awards, held on Saturday in Guayaquil.

Quito won for the sixth year the prize as the leading destination in South America and, for the second time, as the leading destination for meetings and conferences within this event considered as the ‘Oscars’ of tourism.

This year, in addition, for the first time it received the award of destination leading cultural city of South America.

“Quito is powered by obtaining these awards as a South American benchmark, which positions it worldwide as a destination included in the list of the next cities to visit by travelers,” said the Municipality.

In addition to these awards, companies in the industry based in Quito won in other categories. The Mariscal Sucre International Airport won the leading South American Airport Trophy 2018; the Wyndham Quito won the leading airport hotel in South America 2018; the Swissotel Quito won as the leading conference hotel in South America 2018.

El Carlota won the award as the leading design hotel in South America 2018; Mashpi Lodge was awarded the Eco Lodge Leader in South America 2018; the Swissotel Quito was ranked as the Leader Hotel in South America 2018), while the JW Marriott was the Leading Hotel Suite in South America 2018.

Cultura Manor was awarded as the leading boutique hotel in Ecuador; and Molino de San Juan, as the leading heritage hotel in Ecuador.

In total, Ecuador won 25 prizes in 38 Travel categories. Within those, Guayaquil and companies based in the city won 8 awards that were shown yesterday at the City Palace.

Cuenca won for the second time the trophy as the best short holiday destination in South America. At the ceremony, the hotel Zahir 360 was also awarded in the design hotel category.

Being a short holiday destination implies a stay of no more than three days, time in which a traveler can get to know the city and its attractions.

Mayor Marcelo Cabrera said that this international achievement was possible thanks to citizen support through the votes made online, but above all because of the characteristics that make Cuenca unique.

Other countries also took trophies. Peru, for example, was chosen as the best culinary destination in South America and the best cultural destination. Machu Picchu took the statue of best tourist attraction in South America.

Chile for the fourth consecutive year won the title of best adventure tourism destination and Bolivia won as the best green destination in South America.

Transport

The Crucero Train of Ecuador won the fifth prize as the best luxury train of 2018 in South America.

Beaches

The Galapagos Islands gained recognition as the leading beach destination in South America.

Aviation

Latam Airlines was recognized as the best airline in the region.

Guayaquil

Among the prizes won by the Pearl of the Pacific is as a leading destination for business trips.

“(The 25 prizes) are a great recognition for @TurismoEC and for that Ecuadorian industry, whose effort is valued, recognized and celebrated worldwide.”

Lenin Moreno, president of the Republic
