The State Attorney General’s Office was left without its maincharacter in charge. Paúl Pérez Reina, the head of the entity, has submittedhis resignation on Wednesday, November 14, 2018, for personal reasons.

In the next session of the Council of Transitional Citizen Participation the resignation of the prosecutor will be considered, accordingto the president, Julio César Trujillo.

He added that if accepted “we will proceed to take the resolutions of the case so that the prosecution does not remain without the official who has competence to intervene in the processes that are interested in society.”

The surrogate attorney general, Ruth Palacios, would replace himin the position until the definitive appointment.

But the Office of the Prosecutor in his Twitter account deniedTrujillo. “We clarified that it is not personal or family reasons butinstitutional ones that led to submit his resignation,” said the account.

Pérez Reina took office on Thursday, May 3 of this year, interim, after his predecessor, Carlos Baca Mancheno, was censored and dismissed by the National Assembly in that same month.

During his administration he gave impulse to several investigations, especially those related to the narco-terrorist alias Guacho, which are in charge of the prosecutor Wilson Toainga.

But others such as Singue, Petrochina, Public Debt, Caminosca, Manduriacu, the Odebrecht cases and their derivatives, which involved officials such as Rafael Correa and Jorge Glas, remained stagnant.
