Diana Atamaint, elected president of the National Electoral Council with just three votes out of five

Diana Diana Atamaint has been elected president of the National Electoral Councilwith three votes of the five members in a crash session that was abandoned bythe vocals Luis Verdosoto and Esthela Acero.
Atamaint, from the Pachakutik movement, was proposed by Enrique Pita, and won with her own vote, that of Pita, and that of the adviser José Cabrera. Pita was elected vice president of the organization with the same three votes. The other two vowels, Verdosoto and Acero, left the session around 3:00 p.m.
The new National Electoral Council must convene tomorrow the sectional elections next year.
Atamaint, 42, from Morona Santiago, was elected national deputy for Pachakutik in 2006,becoming the first Shuar woman to enter the legislature. In 2009, during thegovernment of Rafael Correa, she was appointed Assistant Secretary of theAmazon in the Ministry of Agriculture, but she resigned from the office for thelegislative elections of the same year, obtaining a seat for Pachakutik.
In the Assembly, Atamaint aligned with the opposition.
In 2018she was elected member of the transitory National Electoral Council appointedby the Council of Transitory Citizen Participation presided over by Julio CésarTrujillo. Atamaint has been the only Transitory member that was re-elected. (I)
