Ecuador rejects use of “force against peaceful protesters” in Venezuela

Posted On 25 Feb 2019

Ecuadornews:

On Sunday, February 24, Ecuador rejected the use of force and “the action of paramilitary groups” against “peaceful protesters” in Venezuela, where the opposition tried yesterday to send humanitarian aid across borders, despite opposition from the Government of Nicolás Maduro.

The conviction of Ecuador on the urgency of reaching a “political, peaceful and democratic solution to the crisis in Venezuela has been confirmed, very much in spite of all, by the acts of violence that took place yesterday, when humanitarian aid shipments were blocked for the insistence of the Venezuelan regime that such aid is not necessary, “said a statement from the Foreign Ministry.

It was expected that some donations would enter the country on Saturday in the midst of a large citizen mobilization and after the pressure of the opposition leader, Juan Guaidó, who proclaimed himself interim president of the country in January, but the attempt was frustrated by the public force and the villages of the borders ended as scenarios of confrontations.

According to data from the Venezuelan opposition, as a result of these clashes, 14 people died and there are more than 20 wounded by bullets in the town of Santa Elena de Uairén, in the state of Bolívar, bordering Brazil and on the border with Colombia it is estimated that there was At least 285 injured.

“Ecuador rejects outright the use of public force and the action of paramilitary groups against peaceful demonstrators, and the deaths and injuries suffered by some of them, as was the case of Venezuelans from the Pemón community,” he specifies. The Ecuadorian Foreign Ministry noted that “the delivery of essential goods to the population should not be prevented with blockades or acts of force against those who want to facilitate it” and said that “urgent understandings are required to make way for free elections, without exclusions of any kind” in that country.

On February 7, the Ecuadorian government granted the blessing to Rene De Sola Quintero as the new ambassador of Venezuela on behalf of Guaidó. (I)
