Three ambassadors begin their duties

The Ecuadorian chancellor, José Valencia, received the credentials of the new ambassador appointed by the head of the Assembly of Venezuela and who proclaimed himself interim president of the country, Juan Guaidó, confirmed yesterday February 25, 2019 the Foreign Ministry.

This is René de Sola Quintero, a lawyer by profession who has lived in Ecuador for more than 14 years and is a member of the Pichincha Bar Association. The protocolary act took place last Friday, being the only procedure that was pending so that the Ambassador of Guaidó begins to exercise with its functions.

Last Sunday, De Sola led a day of food collection for Venezuelan migrants who face difficulties in cities such as Santo Domingo, Ibarra and Guayaquil. In statements to journalists, the Ambassador said that he aspires to contribute “to strengthen relations” between Venezuela and Ecuador.

Relations between the two countries fell to their lowest level last October, when the government of the president, Lenin Moreno, decided to expel the then ambassador in Quito, Carol Delgado, following offensive comments by a minister of the Government of Nicolás Maduro

Maduro did the same with the business manager of Ecuador in Caracas, Elizabeth Méndez. In charge of that diplomatic representation is the person in charge of Archives, Manuel Caiza. The chancellor of Ecuador also received the credentials of the ambassadors of the Dominican Republic, José del Carmen Ureña, and Costa Rica, Nury Solís Mata. The new Dominican Ambassador is linked to the business sector and represented his country in Japan, Singapore and Canada. (I)
