Will. We will install. We will create We will execute We will project. The debate of fourteen of the seventeen candidates for mayor of Guayaquil was a coming and going of proposals that remained on the label, without delving into how they will be done.

A squadron of drones to combat insecurity, an electric train and river transport to improve mobility, the formalization of autonomous traders as a mechanism for economic development … all possible projects, but none explained where they will get the resources and which will be the legal mechanisms to concretize their proposals.

Responses with a dash of speech of stage, analysis of a local situation very well known by the guayaquileños and, even, bring out their credentials were part of the answers of some postulants. And the questions between them could not miss.

This meeting, initiative of the Faro Group, in partnership with the National Electoral Council, gathered the aspiring mayor of Guayaquil in the auditorium of newspaper El Universo. Two of them, Carlos Cassanello and Octavio Suárez, excused themselves at the last minute. The latter by a family mishap. Cynthia Viteri did not accept the invitation.

The debate was held in three blocks, meaning that all the candidates were not together, but divided into groups and answered questions on four subjects: social development, mobility, economy and gender. They had the option to comment on the responses of other applicants and reply to those comments.

In social development, the question was focused on security. Most of the responses were aimed at combating drug micro-trafficking with surveillance cameras installed in the exterior of schools and colleges, as well as creating addiction rehabilitation centers and preventing consumption. On mobility, the proposals were varied: a high meter, electric train, river transport, improve the metro, bike paths and more. In this issue the value of traffic fines, which for some are excessive, was added. The general proposal is to reduce these values and restructure the Municipal Transit Authority.

In economics, the plans are aimed at promoting the formalization of autonomous commerce, creating commercial corridors, promoting investment, promoting accessible credits for merchants and facilitating municipal procedures to create businesses. On gender, each candidate answered a different question. The proposals were aimed at creating policies and promoting education in favor of gender equality and eradicating violence against women.

After three hours of proposals, replies and comments, the candidates shook hands and put aside their differences to take a final picture before returning to the campaign. (I)
