A postcard of the second corporal Miguel Sebastián Casilari rested next to his remains and a tricolor flag on Thursday afternoon at the Parque de la Paz cemetery in La Aurora. There he was buried, after almost 32 years of his death, on April 27, 1987.

His family went to the cemetery for the tribute paid to him by the Ecuadorian Army on a sunny afternoon.

Casilari was a combatant of the Battle of Jambelí, the conflict between Peru and Ecuador that took place on July 24, 1941. He lent his services to the warning Atahualpa, a vessel that was attacked by a Peruvian plane, which later fell down.

Sofía Casilari, the eldest daughter, has the intact memory of her father. She expressed her admiration for him, in addition to telling several anecdotes.

She indicated that in 1942 her father requested the withdrawal of the Ecuadorian Navy to travel to Panama and join the Armed Forces of the United States, in his war against Japan. There he stayed until 1945.

Casilari was born in Machala in 1915. He was a descendant of Miguel and Juan José Casilari, heroes of Guayaquil’s independence. (I)
