The insurance company Mapfre speaks out after the Prosecutor’s Office raided its facilities. He assures that this investigation is not related to other cases that the Prosecutor’s Office is investigating in Petroecuador.

The Prosecutor’s Office raided the offices of an insurance company in Guayaquil, on February 29, 2024.
As part of an investigation into alleged embezzlement in the contracting of policies in the state-owned Petroecuador, the Prosecutor’s Office and the Police raided the offices of an insurance company, in Guayaquil, on February 29, 2024.
According to the entity, this is a tax investigation in which evidence related to the alleged commission of the crime of illicit association is collected.
The raided offices correspond to the company Mapfre Ecuador, which spoke on its social networks about what happened.
“Although Mapfre is certain that it has not committed either the alleged crime under investigation or any other crime (…) Mapfre will collaborate fully and with total transparency with the competent authorities,” the company assures.
The company maintains that this investigation ” has no relationship with other cases, which are appearing in the press these days, in which the Prosecutor’s Office is currently working, related to a state hydrocarbon company,” in reference to Petroecuador.
The Prosecutor’s Office filed charges, in February of this year, against five people, four of whom belonged to Petroecuador, after receiving a classified complaint. Those involved would have harmed the State by USD 49 million.
These are alleged irregularities in the contracting of a policy against all types of oil risk and maritime and non-maritime liability for the oil company, for more than USD 98 million.
