Thousands of people march through Guayaquil in support of the opposition presidential hopeful Guillermo Lasso. After 9:00 pm on Tuesday, the massive demonstration continues along the Avenida de las Américas, in the north of the city, and the shouts “Lasso president,” “democracy yes, dictatorship no,” and “yes to the vote recount,” can be heard.
The march left from the Democracia street, near the Electoral Board of Guayas around 19:30. Sympathizers of Lasso would have remained there since the afternoon demanding transparency in the results of the April 2 presidential election.
The opposition presidential candidate does not accept the results of the CNE that today proclaimed the binomial of Alianza Pais, Lenin Moreno, and Jorge Glas, as winners. Lasso has described electoral data as illegitimate and “a fraud.” Demonstrators shout “we are not five, we are not ten” and “out Correa out,” as they walk along the avenue that connects the José Joaquin de Olmedo Airport, the Terrestrial Terminal and National Unity Bridge in northern Guayaquil.
