A not so dark analog blackout
EcuadorNews:
The open digital television signal that has already reached the national territory activates, without a reverse, the countdown to the end of the analog signals. The Ministry of Telecommunications already has a date for the blackout: June 30 of this year.
The key to surviving this change will be that your TV supports the standard to be adopted by Ecuador: ISDB-Tb (Integrated Services Digital Broadcasting-Terrestrial).
Does this involve changing TV´s full of knobs that gives a vintage touch to your room or that chubby box that brings you memories of the 90’s? Not necessarily, you can purchase a set top box to continue enjoying your fav shows (prices range from 20 to 80 dollars).
But you should know that a decoder operates for a single TV, so if you want to tune the digital channels on all analog TVs in your home, you must buy one for each of them.
The benefits of this technology are a better image and audio quality. In addition “to visualize a program guide, a greater energy efficiency and the possibility of a mobile TV,” according to a statement from the Ministry of Telecommunications.
