A singer joins the Palestinians
A 22-Year-old man has managed to unite the Palestinian people. His name is Muhamad Assaf, and just won The Arab Idol, the singing contest which has drove the Arab World crazy.
The famous Arab journalist Khaled Abu Toameh, said that he “accomplished what no political leader has ever achieved: 60 million votes”, and stressed that numbers leave evidence that not only the Palestinians voted for him but a large audience throughout the Arab world.
Muhamad, who today is a recognized artist lives in the refugee camp Khan Yunes, in the South of Gaza, to which his parents returned after living years in Libya, where he was born.
The artist, who comes from a modest family, seems not accustomed yet to his new position as a Palestinian national hero, receiving congratulations from the President Abu Mazen, who supported him from the beginning.
“I went into competition promising me to bring a little joy to the Palestinian people. I dedicate this victory to the martyrs of Palestine, prisoners and disabled persons”, said Muhamad after reaching the Valley of Rafah, from Egypt, and having kissed the Earth of the Strip.
The United Nations appointed the singer as Goodwill Ambassador, due to the fervor of the crowd who came to meet him.
