Arab League Warns Syria about a Foreign Intervention
Posted On 01 Dec 2011
Nabil el-Araby, the Arab League secretary-general told CNN that the Syrian regime can “avoid the dangers of a foreign intervention” if it agrees to an Arab League plan to end the conflict.
El-Araby added that the government has yet to accept the league’s plan to send observers into the country to watch the regime’s response to stop the civil unrest. During this week, foreign ministers from 19 Arab League countries voted to stop the economic sanctions on the Syrian regime.
The Arab League and other powers are pressuring the Syrian president Bashar al-Assad to end its nearly nine-month-long violent demonstrations. (AV)
