Balda denounces Rafael Correa and 7 people for alleged embezzlement

Posted On 14 Dec 2018
Ecuadornews:

The political activist Fernando Balda presented yesterday inthe Attorney General, a complaint for the crime of embezzlement against theformer president of the Republic Rafael Correa and seven people. In theaccusation of five pages and 168 attachments, he asks that the use of around $500,000 from public resources be investigated criminally for the kidnapping hewas subjected to in Bogotá, in 2012.

Balda recalled that within the criminal proceeding that follows the National Court of Justice (CNJ) for its alleged plagiarism, in the call for trial made by Judge Daniella Camacho, were admitted as valid evidence, documents that would confirm that public resources were used for this purpose.

“Money from the Ecuadorian State was used to hire assassins and kidnappers in Colombia to attempt against me. These monies come from several sources: one is from the Presidency of the Republic, the National Directorate of Intelligence of the National Police and the Senain, “he said.

According to the complainant, approximately $ 237,000 would have been spent on their kidnapping, but there would be another item for close to $ 250,000 that should verify their origin and expense.

For this reason, it encloses the request for the Prosecutor’s Office to request the Comptroller of the State to make the reports of criminal responsibility with respect to these public monies. In addition to former President Rafael Correa, the exits of the National Secretariat of Intelligence (Senain), Rommy Vallejo and Pablo Romero are denounced; former Minister of the Interior, José Serrano; Wilson Narváez Guaicha; Carolina Andrade; Iván Jarrín and Paco Silva. Jairo Lalaleo, one of Balda’s lawyers, said that this crime does not prescribe and can be prosecuted in absentia.

Fausto Jarrín, of the defending team of former presidentCorrea, indicated that this new complaint will fall because there is not enoughlegal support. “The trial of the alleged kidnapping has not yet occurred, all the documentation has not been validated by a court that makes thetrial.” (I)
