Ban Ki-moon Asks for the Ceasefire in Syria
UN general secretary, Ban Ki-moon, has asked the government and the Syrian rebels a ceasefire. According to the six-point plan made by the UN-Arab League Kofi Annan, the ceasefire expired last Thursday, April 10.
Ban Ki-moon warned that any “small or involuntarily” problem can “break this fragile process,” this is why he asked to “continue the process of political negotiation.” The UN secretary also informed of the arrival of the six members of an advanced team of observers into Syria.
The secretary stated that the observers are “unarmed and it’s the responsibility of the Syrian government to guarantee their freedom of access and movement to be able to prove the cease of violence.”
The group’s number would increase to 30 and on the next Wednesday, the UN Security Council will propose the authorization for the deployment of 250 observers in order to achieve safety in Syria. (AV)
