Bike Lanes will Arrive to Guayaquil

Between October and December of this year bike lanes will be implemented in Guayaquil to allow people to take rides and visit tourist sites by bicycle through downtown streets.
After analyzing the project for three years, the Municipality of Guayaquil will begin the project in the city’s most troubled streets, those from downtown area, because this sector is the appropriate in order to expand it to the rest of Guayaquil in the future, according to José Nuñez, Urbanism Municipal Director.
“The main idea of the project -which includes 3,16 kilometers on eight streets that cross downtown cultural and tourist attractions – is to communicate that there are other sustainable and friendly ways to transport,” said the Councilwoman Gina Galeano, who supports the proposal.
$500,000 will be invested for the first circuit, but before a campaign that will cost $142,400 will begin, in order to inform people of the project. The campaign will involve advertisements in the media and also a project called Via Activa, which will be implemented by the Biciacción foundation that will close the lane of a street one weekend every 15 days to allocate a space for various activities such as biking and skating.
