Thousands of police officers added themselves to the protests organized today in the United Kingdom. Several union groups expressed their contempt towards the austerity policies taken by the conservative coalition of democratic liberals lead by Prime Minister David Cameron.

Last time that the police went to strike it was in 1919, since then it is illegal. Today it is believed that over 20,000 officers dressed as civilians out of duty attended the manifestation in the center of London. Around 16,000 people wear black hats that symbolize their mourning due to the firing of 16,000 police officers.

The police protest falls along with a 24 hours strike due to the reforms of the public pension that is affecting the service of prisons, courts, hospitals, universities, ministries’, parliaments and border controls; among other sectors of public administration. (AV)
