Cairo Returns to Hostile Demonstrations
Thousands of demonstrators slept on the lawns, sidewalks and streets of Tahrir Square. The previous night the streets were filled with tear gas and confrontations between officers and civilians. A steady stream of ambulances leaving Tahrir Square was a tragic sign of the chaos in Egypt.
Many of the demonstrators were young Egyptian men, most of them teenagers. According to the latest statistics of the Ministry of Health at least 29 people have perished during the three days of violence as of Monday night. The violence in Tahrir Square continues to escalate.
Huge crowds of protesters continue to battle in Tahrir Square in central Cairo against police officers. Demonstrations started to grow a day after the civilian cabinet offered its resignation to Egypt’s transitional government. (AV)
