Capriles denounces fraud in 1.4 million ballots

Posted On 17 Apr 2013

Opposition candidate Henrique Capriles, has listed in detail some of the irregularities that he thinks  have been committed in the elections held last Sunday, and even presented evidence that would prove his complaints.

According to Capriles, 535 machines were damaged, which would have affected 189,982 votes. Moreover, in 1176 centers, the government candidate, Nicolas Maduro, pulled more votes than Hugo Chavez.

In one of them, Maduro had nearly 1,000 % more ballots: “Who can believe that Maduro has pulled more votes than Chavez, when nearly a million of Chavez’ voters, voted for Capriles?” He said.

The Mesa de Unidad Democratica (MUD) ensured to have evidence of the removal by force of election observers in 286 centers, which means 722,983 voters who were not monitored. It also warns that in 564 voting centers, there were assisted voting, something forbidden in Venezuela, which would affect 1,479,774 voters.

Among other irregularities, Capriles said that 600,000 dead people appear on the electoral register, that in 397 centers voters were intimidated, that there were ballots boxes that had more votes than registered voters, and that 421 schools were used for campaigning acts.

“That is why there must be an audit, because when reviewing everything, we can detect the problem. The law says that if there is an irregularity in the table, that table gets canceled,” said Capriles.
