Characters from the mural in La Atarazana will be changed
The artist Juan Pablo Toral, author of the work “Reales Astilleros,” located in the Pedro Menendez Gilbert Av. overpass, in Guayaquil, decided to replace the faces of public officials that served as a model to recreate Spanish and slaves, which generated controversy. Toral explains that the decision to remove the faces is personal and not an order of the Municipality.
“I do not want the mural to be a bad thing, I want to bring to the city a cultural thing, so I decided to change the pieces in order to preserve the artistic integrity of the wall” said the artist.
Toral would have used as models the director of the Municipal Transit, Andres Roche, also Carlos De Tomaso, adviser of the Mayor, and Assemblyman Henry Cucalón (PSC-MG), among others, to recreate scenes of colonial shipyards, but ruled that his work is political.
