Charges are filed against alleged kidnapper
Ariel Castro, main suspect in the kidnapping of three women, appeared today in Cleveland before the judge of the municipal court, Lauren Moore, who formally accused him of kidnapping in four cases and for rape in three.
The official imposed a bail of USD 8 million to Castro, and gave instructions so that the subject does not have any contact with his alleged victims, while he kept his head down, without showing any reaction.
“Mr. Castro is 52 years old. He has lived in the area for 39 years. He receives compensation for unemployment and as far as I know, has no convictions for felonies or serious crimes.” Said Kathleen DeMetz, his defense lawyer, in regard to the bail.
Brian Murphy, the County Prosecutor, believed necessary to express himself and said: “I would like to say that the charges filed against Mr. Castro are based on the deliberate decision to kidnap three young women from the streets of the South Side of Cleveland”.
Once the hearing was over, DeMetz spoke to reporters, and said that Castro is in risk of committing suicide and that he should be placed under special surveillance when he is brought to the county jail.
