“We want to announce as the first act of government, that we have decided to appoint the comrade Jorge Arreaza as the new Vice President, Minister of Science and Technology,” said Acting President of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro.
Arreaza, who is the son-in-law of the late President Hugo Chavez and who also participated on his cabinet, assumes constitutional functions which, until yesterday, before his appointment, were Maduro’s, ie, temporarily take over the presidency in case of “absolute absence” in case it occurs during the first four years in office.
“As of today (yesterday) he (Arreaza) is responsible for the Executive Vice Presidency to further strengthen the work of the government,” said Nicolas Maduro.
