During the last year the Venezuelan President, Hugo Chavez, has remained in Cuba for 80 days, while still maintaining his presidential powers despite the cancer.

Yesterday Carlos Berrizbeitia, an opposition official denounced that so far the treatment for Chavez’s decease has cost the country over $12 million between the travel arrangements and the transfer of the official delegation.

Only by traveling in the plane Chavez spends $1,7 million so that he can receive his treatment in La Habana, Cuba. Berrizbeitia pointed out that in the last 340 days, the Venezuelan leader has been 240 days hospitalized or resting and that 80 of those he has been in La Habana.

“He has made all of these because he does not delegate power… It is not normal that a president continues to rule from another country. The governments priority are not the problems of Venezuela, instead they want Chavez alive for October 7,” added Berrizbeitia. (AV)
