Clinical Gonzalez and IESS shall be audited by the Finance Office

Last Thursday, the General Finance Office initiated an audit on the agreements signed between Social Security Institute (IESS for its Spanish acronym) and the Gonzalez Clinic, owned by cousins of Ramiro Gonzalez, president of the Social Security Board.

For this process, it reviews the accreditations given by the IESS to Clinic (between January 1, 2008 and July 31, 2012) and inspects the implementation of the agreements signed between the two parties. The audit estimated time is 30 working days and will be conducted by the Audit Department of Social Development and Security Branch of the Comptroller will conduct the investigation.

An investigation by the newspaper El Universo, which revealed that Gonzalez Clinic is the only private institution that has an agreement with the IESS in Sucumbios and its insurance revenues doubled year after year. Subsequently an official commission of IESS published a report, where the Gonzalez Clinic irregularities were shown during an inspection in April 2009; just days before the clinic IESS obtain accreditation as a first class hospital.
