CONAIE announced it will not leave its headquerters despite eviction
The President of the Confederation of Nationalities and Peoples of Ecuador (CONAIE), Jorge Herrera, told Expreso newspaper he is working to organize a national mobilization against the citizen’s revolution, for March 19th. This, after the Ministry of Economic and Social Inclusion (MIES) decided to recover the facilities of the CONAIE headquarters, to create a center for young people with drug problems, after the expiry of the contract bailment between CONAIE and the state, whose official decision was made on Tuesday.
Herrera added: “A legal team analyzes the final resolution of MIES. This space is ours, it is reparative to the historical process of exploitation we have suffered for years.”
Currently, at night, the venue is under the protection of provincial delegates, who take turns to sleep there.
“We will not leave here, if we are displaced the government must face the consequences,” said Herrera.
