Constitutional Court resolves Democracy Code

QUITO, Ecuador
The Constitutional Court (CC) revealed the resolution of the Democracy Code with 6 votes in favor and 3 against.
The new resolution states the D’Hondt method as constitutional; therefore it will be applied in the 2013 elections.
“It is a proportional method that guarantees plurality of participation,” said the President of the CC, Patricio Pazmiño.
The resolution also states that legal restrictions on the work of journalists during elections are unconstitutional, i.e., journalists can do their work freely.
However, an attorney of the National Union of Journalists (UNP for its Spanish acronym), Santiago Guarderas, will ask in the coming hours for a clarification of this resolution. (MZ)
