Controversy continues by the use of paintball bullets in manifestations
The Minister of the Interior, José Serrano, told to the journalists in the city of Machala, who questioned him about what happened last Tuesday in the vicinity of Carondelet, that is going to be demonstrated that the national police didn’t had, in the operation of yesterday, rubber bullets.
“It’s a manipulated lie. What one of our officers had was a paintball gun that was never used, so that lie is going to fall”, said the official.
However, a video edited by Ecuadorlibrered, shows two moments where the “Paintball gun”, as called by Serrano, appears among the officers as well as young people with “bullet” impacts from that type of gun.
The Minister expressed no opinion with respect to the wounded, but reiterated his warning to the Ecuadorian newspapers El Universo, El Comercio and La Hora “which have until today to show that rubber bullets were used in the demonstrations” in favor of the Yasuní on Tuesday night.
Meanwhile, the Ecuarunari, along with a group of social youth organizations and politicians, responded to the statements of Serrano by pointing out that he is lying, and announced that today at 17:00 will take place a demonstration called “Zapateo by Yasuni” in the basement of the Ministry of the Environment.
