Controversy over changes in agriculture
Posted On 18 Jul 2017
Ecuadornews:
Friday noon a riot emerged from the agricultural sector, after learning through a tweet posted by Daily EXPRESO the departure of Vice Minister Javier Villacís, the organizer of the farming community clean-up during the presidential campaign of Lenin Moreno, and the non-renewal of the contract of 250 technicians.
Over the weekend the information continued to spread, and criticism was directed against a politician accused of hiring people linked to the official party in the state offices of Los Rios province, while another group (smaller) defended the changes on Twitter.
Yesterday Minister Vanessa Cordero was in Guayaquil. Her agenda included a meeting with the collaborators of the Vice-Ministry and with producers of rice and corn from Guayas and Los Ríos.
But a protest organized by the Ecuadorian Coordinating Association of Fine Cacao Producers, led by its technical secretary Wilfrido Riera, waited for her on the Francisco de Orellana street.
The sit-in, that criticized the state policy, questioned the work of the Ministry, the drop in the price of the banana box from to $8 to $ 2, and the lack of actual data on the winter maize harvest. (I)
