Correa believes that Interpol’s decision in Case Mahuad is an “insult”

So says the president of Ecuador, Rafael Correa, about the decision taken by the International Police Organization (Interpol), of refusing to disseminate an international arrest warrant against former Ecuadorian President Jamil Mahuad, accused of embezzling public funds and generating a serious financial crisis, because it considers the whole case as a “political issue.”
Last Monday, Judge Vintimilla Ximena, handling the case, indicated in a report from the National Court of Justice, that Interpol claimed that this is a case of a “predominantly political nature“.
The report notes that the judge Vintimilla has asked the Interpol to reconsider its decision, because its response does not explain about the case being considered as political.
