Correa sues Martín Pallares

Posted On 22 Jun 2017

Ecuadornews:

Former President Rafael Correa has filed a criminal suit against journalist Martín Pallares, according to the 4Pelagatos website.
The former president accuses Pallares, one of the country’s most prestigious journalists, of allegedly uttering “expressions in dishonor” against him in an article published in 4Pelagatos in April 2017. According to Section 396, Paragraph 1, of the Criminal Code, this is punishable by a “custodial sentence of fifteen to thirty days.” Correa also claims “a civil compensation of damages fixed by the judge in charge of the case.”

Correa claims that Pallares “refers to me with expressions that affect my honor by accusing me of acts that conflict with the law and morality, using for this purpose a means of communication of wide coverage, evidencing the intention of harming me.” (I)
